About Us

We are the regulator for the optical professions in the UK. We currently register around 30,000 optometrists, dispensing opticians, student optometrists and dispensing opticians, and optical businesses. Our mission is to protect the public by upholding high standards in the optical professions and our staff are at the centre of helping us to achieve that.

Salary


We offer competitive salaries to all our employees. Pay reviews are carried out annually.


The GOC became an accredited Living Wage Employer with the Living Wage Foundation on 23 October 2017. We sought accreditation to reflect our own rates of pay and those of our contractors to ensure their staff received the real London Living Wage. Holiday


GOC employees are entitled to 30 days annual leave, increasing to 31.5 days after 5 years, plus 8 bank holidays


(terms and conditions apply). 

Group personal pension


We provide a Group Personal Pension plan for all employees and will double your contributions up to a maximum of 10% of salary (i.e., if you pay 5%, GOC pay 10%).  In addition, you can choose to save into your pension plan via 'salary sacrifice', which will allow you to save National Insurance contributions on your contributions.

Private medical insurance scheme


A private medical scheme is available to all employees, their spouses or civil partners, and children.  This is a taxable benefit, and you will be taxed at your highest marginal rate on the value of the premiums.

Healthcare care plan


In addition to the Private Medical Insurance scheme, GOC also provide a Healthcare Cash plan for all employees.  This provides contributions towards your medical bills.  This is a taxable benefit, and you will be taxed at your highest marginal rate on the value of the premiums

Life Insurance


We provide group life insurance. This means that in the event of your death while employed, your nominated beneficiaries will receive a payment equivalent to 4 times your basic salary.

Income Protection


The GOC provides an income protection scheme. Should you be unable to work due to an accident or illness, 2/3 of your basic salary will be paid to you through payroll, after a 26-week deferred period

Cycle to work scheme 


All employees can apply for the cycle to work scheme benefiting from income tax and National Insurance relief.

A confidential information and support service is available to you and your immediate family 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
